The Argyll Poppy ©, painted by Lorraine M. DeGroote, commemorates the life and service of fallen Argylls. Each poppy donated will appear on the Argyll Field of Remembrance, above, with the name of the person honoured and an inscription, according to the donor’s wishes.
We invite you to click on the poppies in the Field of Remembrance above to see names and details of those honoured to date. When you donate a poppy in recognition of an individual, it will be added to the field. You may know the details about the person whose sacrifice or service you wish to recognize (it need not be an Argyll). If so, click on “Buy a Poppy” at the top right of this page and follow the instructions. Or click on “Roll of Honour” below to search for an Argyll: the database contains the names of all those who died while serving with the 19th Battalion, CEF, and the 173rd Canadian Highlanders (both perpetuated by the Argylls); all of the units perpetuated by the 3rd Machine Gun Battalion (amalgamated with the Argylls in 1936); and the lst Battalion, The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders of Canada (Princess Louise’s), 1940–46. You may also donate a poppy to remember an individual not on the Argylls’ Roll of Honour but who also served; simply go to “Buy a Poppy” (top right) and complete the form. An individual may be recognized by more than one donor.
If, after completing your donation and viewing your poppy, you would like to change the text that displays to the public or add a personal note, click on the button “Edit List of Poppies” (above). Sign in with your email address; your purchased poppy list will appear. In the “Edit” column, click on the link and then the button “Request an Editing Key.” Open “What is an editing key?” and follow the instructions.
This campaign is the third in the history of the ARF. The inaugural campaign of 1980 raised over $200,000; the second, in 2002-04, raised almost $1,000,000. Under the leadership of the Campaign Chairman, Honorary Colonel Ron Foxcroft, the ARF hopes to double its current endowment to over $1,000,000. The campaign was officially launched in February 2016 and will run until 26 May 2019, a total of 40 months. The campaign’s official end will coincide with the 100th anniversary of the demobilization of the First World War battalion, the 19th, on 26 May 1919.
